(M) Directed by Noah Baumbach
Starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts
by Ben McEachen
A funny, multi-faceted salvo at inter-generational issues, changes, regrets and envy, this mature dramedy reunites writer-director Noah Baumbach with his Greenberg star Ben Stiller. That pairing instantly divides the people, but those down with their brand of knowing knowing-ness should swoon over 40-somethings Josh (Stiller) and Cornelia (Watts) being “reborn” by hanging with hipsters (Driver and Amanda Seyfried). While We're Young fares strongly as a love-hate letter to a sub-culture, but is more astute at skewering how people desperately shape meaning for themselves (from ambitious dreams, to manipulated truth).
